A funeral service for Kurt "TJ" Henderson, 55, of Carthage, TX, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2015, at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church with Pastor Larry W. Thorn officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. On March 27, 2015, God called one of his angels home.

Kurt was born on Nov. 3, 1959, in Panola County to Dora Mae Henderson and Frank Smith. He attended Carthage High School with the class of 1978, where he participated in football and track. He worked with his father until his death in the timber transportation business and later for Lee Tree Service. More recently, he worked for Smith Equipment until his health caused him to retire. He loved fishing, playing softball, and was a die-hard fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Carthage Bulldogs. He was a long-time member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. Kurt was preceded in death by his mother, Dora Mae Henderson; his father, Frank Smith; and brothers, Ronnie and Aundre.

Kurt is survived by step-children, Christopher J. Owens and Rosie Ayala of Augusta and Kameisha T. Smith and husband X-Zavier of Crystal Springs; step-grandchild, Zane E. Ayala of Crystal Springs; sisters, Donna Henderson and June Henderson Pope and husband Joey all of Carthage, Debra Smith and Annette Randolph and husband Rodney all of Dallas, Teresa Smith Bowie and husband Eric of Houston, and Tangela Howard Smith and husband Dwayne of Prairieville; brothers, Gary Henderson and Kemmy Henderson and wife Priscilla all of Carthage, Frankie Smith and wife Terry and Kenneth Goss and wife Hattie all of Dallas, Lesander Howard, Jerry Smith and wife LaKeshia, Leo Hunt and wife Vanessa, and Derrick Howard and wife Vickie all of Houston, and Derrick Taylor and wife Sharon of Longview; special nieces, Kereshia and Timea; and very special cousins, Angela, Calvin Ray, Larry, Laurice, Letisha, and Renita; and aunts, Alice Booty and Vivian Johnson. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Kurt.

Pallbearers are George Johns, Talvi Anderson, Jerry Castleberry, Cecil Matlock, Michael Pipkins, Lewis Burrough Jr., Tommy Jackson, and Dorthell Ingram.
