Karen Ramsey, 80, of Gary, Texas, passed away on Sunday afternoon, December 3, 2023, at her home in Gary. Karen Ann Mickelson was born on August 10, 1943, in Knoxville, Iowa to the late Oswald "Red" and Delma E. Juline Mickelson. She graduated from high school in Yoder, Wyoming and later attended secretarial school in California. Karen married John Marlin Ramsey on August 10, 1974, in Carthage, Texas. She worked for many years in medical transcription at UTMB in Galveston and at Panola General Hospital in Carthage. While at Panola General, she also worked in the accreditation of the hospital. Karen later worked at the Panola County Courthouse in the County Attorney's office and was an honorary sheriff's deputy. One of her favorite things to do was mowing her property. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Laverne Mickelson and Mary Free.

Mrs. Ramsey is survived by her loving husband of 49+ years, John Ramsey; twin daughters, Suzanne Spence and husband Robert and JoAnn Bruton; grandchildren, Karen Tully, Heather Akins, Michael Akins, Allison Spence, Jodi Harville and husband William; Scott Ramsey, Jessica Bruton, and Jamie Hulsey and husband Frank; and numerous great-grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Cecilia and Mike Marshall for the loving care and friendship through the years.
