A funeral service for Joyce Sharpe Rogers, 85, of Carthage, will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Allen Tilley, Bro. James McRight, and Dr. Dale Reed officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Rogers passed away on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 21, 2014, in Carthage.
Joyce Wheeler Sharpe Rogers was born on Aug. 18, 1929, in Glenwood, TX to the late Zurkel and Gladys Bledsoe Wheeler. She graduated from Glenwood High School with the class of 1946. Joyce married Andrew C. (Andy) Sharpe on Oct. 3, 1947 in Longview and he preceded her in death on Oct. 9, 1981. She worked as co-owner and bookkeeper for Sharpe Electric, Co. from 1964 until her retirement in 1981. Joyce married Bill Rogers on Dec. 1, 1986, in Carthage and he preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 2004. Mrs. Rogers was active in the community and was a member of the Panola County Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors and was recognized as Ambassador of the Year in 1984. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Panola County Shrine Club Auxiliary. She moved to Carthage in 1962, from Marshall and was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Carthage. She was also preceded in death by her son, Kevin Wheeler Sharpe and one sister, Shirley Trapp Williams.
Mrs. Rogers is survived by three children, Rod Sharpe of Carthage, Toni Clements and husband Charlie of Antioch, and Patrick Sharpe and wife LeeAnne of Carthage; daughter-in-law, Debbie Holcomb of Carthage; 12 grandchildren, Debbie Burson and husband Larry, Bo Sharpe and wife Brandi, Chris Smith and wife Miranda, Haley Huron and husband Chance, Kory and Lawsen Sharpe, Nicole Holcomb, Taylor, Kelsey, and Kolbey Sharpe, and Dusty and Chris Rogers; and 6 great-grandchildren, Matthew Burson, Kassi and Kaylynn Sharpe, Madison and Bri Smith, and Hayden Harrison.
Serving as pallbearers are Chris Smith, Bo Sharpe, Kory Sharpe, Lawsen Sharpe, Kolbey Sharpe, Matthew Burson, Dusty Rogers, and Chris Rogers.
