Obituary

Joyce McGee, 82, of Gary, Texas, passed away on Thursday evening, December 21, 2023, in Carthage, Texas. Joyce Lee Gorum was born on November 13, 1941, in West Monroe, Louisiana to the late Eddie Lee and Sue Dorris Mayes Gorum. She graduated from West Monroe High School and attended Northeast Louisiana University. Joyce worked as a secretary and bookkeeper and also owned her own gift shop for many years before retirement. She loved her family, God, nature and beauty, music, and gardening. Joyce was a gifted artist and poet. She loved her fur babies dearly. She lived most of her life in Louisiana and retired to her "Hope Cottage" at Lake Murvaul in 2010. Joyce was a member of Holy Springs Baptist Church in Garrison. She was also preceded in death by her son, Kenny Wayne McGee; her brother, Eddie Lee Gorum, Jr.; and grandparents, Zola Mae "Mom" Mayes and Donel B. "Daddy" Mayes.

She is survived by her daughters, Tracy McGee Simon and husband Michael, Laurie McGee, Linda McGee Wrightson and husband David, and Jeanie "Bug" McGee Fortenberry and husband Keith; grandchildren, Jessica Lee, Bradley M. Lassiter and wife Anna, Jacob McGee, Jace McGee, and Micalee Wrightson; great-grandchildren, Colton Mercer, Ally Mercer, Bella Williams, Zaiden Williams, Anniston Williams, and Bradley B. Lassiter; and sisters, Gloria "GeeGee" Phillips and Judy Hodges. Numerous nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, other relatives and friends also survive Mrs. McGee.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.
