Obituary
A funeral service for Mrs. Joyce Elaine Campbell Morton, age 85, of Gary, TX, will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Eastside Baptist Church in Gary with Bro. Dale Walker and Dr. P.A. DuBose officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Gary Cemetery. Mrs. Morton will lie in state from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. She passed away on Monday afternoon, May 6, 2013, at her home in Gary.
Joyce Elaine Campbell Morton was born on Apr. 15, 1928, in Beckville, TX. She was the daughter of Max and Rosa Trammell Campbell. She lost her mother at the age of one and was cared for by Mr. and Mrs. H.T. Vice of Beckville until she was old enough to live with her sister, May E. Campbell, who raised her through high school. She graduated from Miami Edison Sr. High School in Miami, FL where she met and married Robert R. Morton on Nov. 24, 1945, at North Miami Baptist Church. She lived in Miami until she moved to Gary, TX with her husband in 1991. She was a member of the Eastside Baptist Church in Gary. She was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her daughters and relatives. She was a devoted wife and mother. Mrs. Morton was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years; daughter, Elizabeth Ann "Libby"; parents; sister, May Campbell; brothers, Lester Campbell and wife Belle, Elmo Campbell, Ray Campbell, and Rex Campbell.
Mrs. Morton is survived by her daughters, Janice K. Morton and Mary Ellen Morton of Gary; sister-in-law, Irene Campbell of Gary; brother and sister-in-law, Bert and Bette Carraway of Charlotte, NC; sister-in-law, Jo Morton of Satellite Beach, FL; and sister-in-law, Jeanne Metzger of Waynesville, NC; numerous nieces and nephews, special friend, Pat Deringer, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Serving as pallbearers are Juan Fernandez, Rusty Koonce, Phil Campbell, Jerry Nichols, Jim Koonce, and Bob Hudman.
