Obituary
Funeral services for Mrs. Joy Ann Denton, age 79, of the Snap Community in Panola County, TX, will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2011, at Cedar Grove Baptist Church with Bro. Freddy Mason and Pastor Corbett Thompson officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Denton passed away on Sunday evening, July 24, 2011, in Carthage.
Joy Ann Williams Denton was born on Aug. 25, 1931, in the Murvaul Community of Panola County, TX to Lewis Arthur and Dolly Ritter Williams. Mrs. Denton attended Carthage schools and Panola College. She married Webster Denton, Jr. on June 28, 1947, in Clayton, TX. Mrs. Denton worked for Blue Buckle, Bealls, Thiokol, Panola College, Carthage High School, and as a caregiver for the elderly until her retirement. She loved to quilt. Mrs. Denton lived her lifetime in Panola County and was a longtime member of the Cedar Grove Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday school teacher. She was preceded in death by her parents; seven siblings; and a son-in-law, John Kelly.
Mrs. Denton is survived by her husband of 64 years, Webster Denton, Jr. of the Snap Community; two sons, Danny Denton and wife Cathy of Lake Fork and Dalton Denton and wife Connie of Carthage; one daughter, Betty Kelly of Richmond; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and one on the way. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mrs. Denton.
Serving as pallbearers are John Allen Kelly, Captain Daniel Wade Denton, Brandon Denton, Jeremie Calhoun, Billy Fuller, Xavier Cordova-Figallo, Mike Beatty, and Craig Robinson.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are Michael Sparks and Donnie Godwin.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff and nurses of Briarcliff Healthcare Center and Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview for the loving care shown to Mrs. Denton.
