Joseph Anthony Mulla

Joseph Anthony Mulla, age 90, of Gary, Texas, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, September 28, 2026, in Gary.

Joseph was born July 18, 1936, in Houston, Texas, to the late Angelo and Rose Marie Sicola Mulla. He was a graduate of St. Thomas High School in Houston, Class of 1954. On June 20, 1957, Joseph married Maria Dolores Cano in Barcelona, Spain. Together, they shared 60 years of marriage and built a life filled with family, love, and cherished memories until her passing on December 26, 2017.

Joseph proudly served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. He later worked for TUDCO in the maintenance department for 30 years before retiring. A man of strong faith, Joseph was a member of St. William of Vercelli Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, especially making homemade cheese and wine, camping, and spending time outdoors. Above all, Joseph treasured his family and the time he spent with them.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Maria; sisters, Elizabeth Furman and Johanna Smith; and brothers, Vincent Mulla and Angelo Mulla.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Angelo Mulla and wife Denise; daughters, Maria Dolores Garza and husband Albert, and Rose Frumin; grandchildren, Nathan Frumin, Matthew Mulla and wife Marissa, Lisa Horton and husband Anthony, Justin Garza and wife Taylor, and Rachel Carmichael and husband Dan; great-grandchildren, Asher Horton, Carson Garza, Zoe Horton, Paxton Garza, Jacob Carmichael, Sophia Carmichael, Daniella Carmichael, Rosie Carmichael, and Mason Garza; sisters, Saveria Partain, Patsy Stegent, Rosemary Sydlik, and Theresa Samoni. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends who will miss him dearly.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 1, 2026, at St. William of Vercelli Catholic Church, with Father Steve Paradis officiating. A Rosary will be recited at 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at Gary Cemetery under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus at St. William.
