It is with great sadness that the family of Joseph Tanny Johnson, announce his death on Wednesday morning, July 11, 2018, at Marian Place in Carthage, TX at the age of 83. Born on August 7, 1934, in Shreveport, LA, he lived his life in Bossier City where he owned Brownlee Development Corporation and Johnson Construction Company for 40 years.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home with Chaplain Phil Hodson officiating. A private interment will be at Restland Memorial Cemetery near Carthage.
Joe is survived by his wife of 20 years, Nancy Holmes Johnson, with whom he shared a special family bond that included her children and grandchildren, Christina Youngblood & David Bryce, David & Carla Holmes; grandchildren, Jordan Holmes, Leann & Ryan Youngblood, Jessica & Drew Dyer, Mitchell & Leigh Jeter; and great-grandchildren, Mason, Ian & Nolan Dyer and Foster Jeter. "Papa" Joe loved nothing more than being a kid himself with his precious grandchildren. Known to be a prankster and the life of the party, Joe would do anything to entertain his grandchildren and family. Joe was the true spirit of a 'people-person' and leaves many friends and business associates.
Joseph is also survived by a son, Brent B. Johnson of Rowlett and his wife Linda; their daughters, Kristen & Ashly; his brother, Roy and wife, Edith; their daughters, Joy and JoAnn; and his sister, Marjorie Hardcastle and husband Kenneth of Bossier City.
Joe was preceded in death by his son, Bruce G. Johnson and his parents, George and Theresa Johnson.
Joe was active for over 40 years in Lions International, receiving many awards and always giving his full commitment to their projects. Joe established the first homeowner's association (HOA) in Bossier City.
Nancy and her children wish to express their heartfelt gratitude to those who helped care for Joe over his course of illness: Carrie Sweat, Sharon Green, Barbara Buffon of Shreveport-Bossier City; Dr. Gerald Akpassa and the wonderful staff of Heart's Way Hospice and Judy Stallone and the staff of Marian Place. Special thanks to Fr. Steve Paradis of St. William of Vercelli Catholic Church for his faithful visits and ministry to Joe.
