John Simpson, 74, of Carthage, TX, passed away on Friday morning, March 8, 2019, in Longview. John Donald Simpson was born on Jan. 23, 1945, in Center, TX to the late Herbert Harrison Simpson, Sr. and Mada Mildred Mason Simpson. He graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1963. John served our country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He married Janie Louise Yarbrough on Sept. 16, 1966, at Ebenezer UMC in the Del Ray Community of Panola County, TX. He worked for many years at Carthage Cable and for the past 28 years in the maintenance department at CISD. John lived his lifetime in Panola County and was a member of Southside Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Janie Simpson of Del Ray; daughters, Teresa Griffin and husband Bubba of Carthage and Cynthia Laird and husband Edward of Deadwood; sister, Louise Opperman of San Antonio; brother, Herbert Harrison Simpson, Jr.; grandchildren, Lani West and husband Johnnie, Haley Griffin, Grant Griffin and wife Sydnee, Ariana Montagne, and Hunter Simpson; and great-grandchild, Amara Cameron.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Thad Carter officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Walton Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Bubba Griffin, Grant Griffin, Hunter Simpson, George Yarbrough, Phil Powell, and Johnnie West. Honorary pallbearer is Edward Laird.
