Funeral services for Mr. John D. Lister, Sr., age 70, of Carthage, TX, will be held at 11 a.m. on Sat. Feb. 13, 2010, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Hubert Owens officiating. Interment will follow in Wayside-Bell Fountain Cemetery near DeBerry. Mr. Lister's body will lie in state after 8 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service. Mr. Lister passed away on Sunday evening, Feb. 7, 2010, in Tyler.

John D. Lister, Sr. was born on Nov. 16, 1939, in DeBerry, TX to Jack and Girlean Thomas Lister. He attended DeBerry schools. Mr. Lister married Billie Jean Rayson on Nov. 2, 1962, in Center, TX. He worked as a carpenter for Mr. Leland Holland. Mr. Lister lived his lifetime in Panola County and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in DeBerry. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, L.C. and Willie D. Lister.

Mr. Lister is survived by his wife, Billie Jean Lister of Carthage; three sons, John Lister, Jr. and wife Carrie of Carthage, Kevin Lister and wife Sonya of Center, and Jeremy Lister and wife Darla of Carthage; three daughters, Dalphine Walls and husband Michael, Rosetta Hicks, and Ella Manning all of Carthage; one step-daughter, Josephine Rayson of Carthage; two brothers, George L. Lister and wife Delois of Houston and James Lister and wife Mary of Conroe; two sisters, Everlean Brown of Carthage and Gladys McKee of Elysian Fields; fifteen grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mr. Lister.

Serving as pallbearers are Deb Pope, Jimmy Rayson, Larry Pipkin, James Wilcox, Patrick Williams, Clifford Dawg Hill.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are Kevin Lister, Jeremy Lister, John Lister, Jr., L.C. Lister, Adrian Walls, Alan Walls, and Elzie Hicks, Jr.
