Obituary

Funeral services for John Richard Hubbard, age 62, of Jewett have been set for 10 a.m., Friday, March 11, 2016, at the Walters' Buffalo Funeral Home in Buffalo. The burial will be in the Woods Cemetery near Carthage, Texas. Bro. Ray Payne, pastor of the Ephesus Baptist Church near Jewett, will officiate. A visitation is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at Walter's Buffalo Funeral Home. On March 7, 2016, in a Bryan, Texas hospital, following a difficult illness, John left this world peacefully to meet his Savior, the Lord Jesus, face to face.

John Hubbard was born April 14, 1953, in Hugo, Oklahoma to J.R. and Fern (Foster) Hubbard. He had lived the last twelve years in Jewett and before that, had lived in Buffalo. He worked as an environmental supervisor for Nucor in Jewett. He was a very talented piano player and used that talent for church and community events. He was a Christian and fully loved his Lord, his family and friends. Jason Pitts, one of his sons-in-law wrote of him, "John Hubbard is survived by lots of people. He had one of the most amazing lives of anyone I know. He was a talented musician, playing several instruments, the piano being his favorite. If you never got to hear him play then you just plain missed out. He could smoke some of the best ribs, made the best steak I've ever had and fajitas to die for. Fishing was the one thing he loved to do most of all. The man had a hidden talent of being able to get on the fish. I've caught all my big fish with him. His wife, Linda, meant the world to him. He would do anything for her. His two beautiful daughters, Brandilyn and Sarah, were his world. But his four grandchildren were the light of his life and he loved them so very much. He would have given anything to be able to teach them all to fish, cook and play music." John was preceded in death by his father, J.R. Hubbard, and by his father-in-law, Jack Richards.

His surviving family includes his wife of 40 years, Linda Hubbard of Jewett; his mother, Fern Hubbard of Grand Saline; daughters and sons-in-law, Brandilyn and Jason Pitts of Carthage and Sarah and Dustin Hardy of San Angelo; brother, Mickey Hubbard of Channelview; sister and brother-in-law, Salli and Steve Schifani of Grand Saline; and four grandchildren, Drew and Addyson Pitts and Carson and Madison Hardy.

John Baty, James Teer, Jake Simpson, Herbie Roach, Landon Ware and Jay Bray will serve as honorary pallbearers.
