Obituary
Funeral services for Mr. John Ermon "Gotch" Starkey, age 83, of Gary, TX, will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 3, 2011, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Thad Mills officiating. Interment will follow in Corinth Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Mr. Starkey passed away on Friday morning, July 1, 2011, in Tyler.
John Ermon Starkey was born on Oct. 27, 1927, in Panola County, TX to James Culberson and Emily Leon Woods Starkey. He graduated from Gary High School. Mr. Starkey married Wanda Mae Nutt on March 6, 1948, in Clayton, TX. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. Mr. Starkey worked as a heavy equipment operator in the construction business until his retirement. He loved gardening, fishing, and hunting. Mr. Starkey moved back to Panola County in 1989, from Shepherd, TX and was a member of the Mt. Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Gary. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Marion and Lovis Starkey; his parents; two grandsons, Clint and Clay Donnan; and his son, Larry Dale Starkey.
Mr. Starkey is survived by his wife of 63 years, Wanda Mae Nutt Starkey of Gary; three daughters, Linda Choate and husband John of Gary, Retha Starkey of Center, and Betty Riggs and husband Wayne of Gary; daughter-in-law, Linda Starkey of Frankston; ten grandchildren, Kim Nichols, Jerry Thomas, Shellie Coppenbarger, Amber Ross, Cody Donnan, Eric and Justin Riggs, Tammy Bearden, Trisha Evans, and Marie Pendleton; and eighteen great-grandchildren, Max Nichols, Kirsten Coppenbarger, Jessica Thomas, Marissa and Emily Flores, Alex Ross, Caelan and Clara Donnan, Cole Riggs, Blade and Nikke Gillispie, Tori, Kaytlynn, and Breanna Evans, Baylee, Brenden, and Christopher Brown, and Cullen Pendleton.
Serving as pallbearers are John Choate, Cody Donnan, Eric Riggs, Justin Riggs, Wayne Riggs, and Junior Odum.
