Obituary
Funeral services for Mr. John Allen Cariker, age 96 of Carthage, Texas formerly of Long Branch, Texas will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2007 at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ray Brooks and Brother Don Shultz officiating. Interment will be in Long Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 Friday evening at the funeral home. Mr. Cariker passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2007 in Carthage.
John Allen Cariker was born on June 1, 1910 in Clayton, Texas to John Thomas and Mattie Shepherd Cariker. He attended Clayton and Long Branch schools in Panola County. He married Mamie Gladys Worley on January 6, 1930 in Pine Hill, Texas and together they celebrated 52 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on February 11, 1982. On May 19, 1988 he married Mrs. Huelitt Biggs Tiller and together they celebrated 19 years of marriage. He worked as a farmer, rancher, and for 19 years he worked as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. Mr. Cariker had lived in Panola County since 1938 moving from Rusk County. He was a longtime member of the Long Branch Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for over 79 years. Mr. Cariker was also preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
Mr. Cariker is survived by his wife, Huelitt Biggs Cariker of Carthage; two sons, Allen Cariker and wife Bobbie of Carthage and Donald Cariker and wife Janice of Longview; two daughters, Geraldine Brady and husband Pete of Carthage and Carolyn Hillin of Long Branch; one brother, Joe Cariker and wife Billie Sue of Round Rock; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers are Mr. Cariker's grandsons, Ray Brady, Roy Brady, Gregg Brady, Heath Cariker, Tim Cariker, and Tony Cariker. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Mr. Cariker's granddaughters, Wendy Sells and Misty Hillin.
