Funeral services for Mrs. Joe Vell Walls, age 84, of Carthage, Texas, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Carthage under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Old Bethel Cemetery in Clayton. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, at the funeral home. Mrs. Walls passed away on Friday morning, June 19, 2009, in Henderson.
Joe Vell Woods Walls was born January 9, 1925 in the Holland's Quarters Community of Panola County, Texas, to Calvin Woods, Sr. and Tessie Rae Adams Woods. She attended Holland's Quarters schools. Mrs. Walls resided in Panola County where she attended Old Bethel Baptist Church and worked as a cook in the restaurant business. Mrs. Walls was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Phillip Walls, Sr. who passed away on July 20, 2001; one son, Baby Ross Walls; and three brothers, MacArthur Woods, Calvin Woods, and T.W. Woods.
Mrs. Walls is survived by four sons, Phillip Walls, Jr. and wife Mae, Charles D. Walls, Frankie Walls and wife Vanessa, and Michael Walls and wife Dalphine all of Carthage; seven daughters, Jimmie Faye Smith of Carthage, Anna Doris Crowe and husband Freeman of Carthage, Josie Ann Anderson of Red Oak, Linda Joe Ross of Carthage, Nella Jean Johnson of Carthage, Lenise Moore and husband LaWatha of Tyler, Cheanise Turner and husband Donald of Mesquite; five brothers, Warren Woods and wife Naomi of California, Erastus Woods and wife Virgil of Dallas, Dames Woods and wife Stella of Carthage, Eugreginald Woods and wife Frances of Lancaster; and three sisters, Josephine McClendon of Austin, Bobbie Hodge and husband Herbert of Houston, and Patricia Alonzo of Denton. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends also survive Mrs. Walls.
Serving as pallbearers are Willie Smith, Michael Pipkins, Daron Crowe, Shyron Walls, Charles Walls, Jr., DeKendrick Ross, Detrick Hadnot, Deborsia Hadnot, Adrian Walls, Phillip L. Walls, and Devyron Turner.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are Warren Woods, Erastus Woods, Dames Woods, and Eugreginald Woods.
