Obituary

Funeral services for Mr. Joe Parker Harris, age 80 of the Fairplay Community of Panola County, Texas, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Bill Kuykendall officiating. Interment will follow in the Harris Family Cemetery in Fairplay. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Harris passed away on Sunday morning, May 18, 2008 in Longview.

Joe Parker Harris was born on April 18, 1928 in Panola County, Texas to Joe Bailey Harris and Bennie Clovis Parker Harris. He graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1945. Mr. Harris served his country in the United States Army during WWII and was honorably discharged. He married Reba Burns on July 17, 1948 in Carthage. In his early years, Mr. Harris worked as a general foreman for LTV, an aeronautical company in Grand Prairie. He moved back to Panola County in 1977 from Dallas County. After moving, Mr. Harris worked as a rancher. Mr. Harris was a proud member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and the Military Order of the Stars and Bars. He loved his family and grandchildren dearly. Mr. Harris was a member of the Fairplay Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Harris is survived by his wife of over 59 years, Reba Burns Harris of the Fairplay Community; two sons, Stephen Cai Harris and wife Karen of Montgomery and Thomas Jonathan Harris and wife Amy of the Fairplay Community; one daughter, Joanna Harris Bounds and husband Greg of Henderson; one sister, Louann Parrish of Tenaha; four grandchildren, Kyanne Harris Todd and husband Phillip, Amy Christina Bounds, Joshua Cai Harris, and Christopher Scott Bounds; and one great-granddaughter, Lexi Lillian Todd. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends also survive Mr. Harris.

Serving as pallbearers are Joshua Cai Harris, Christopher Scott Bounds, Rhett Parrish, Joe Early Parrish, Justin Jones, and Bailey Jones. Serving as an honorary pallbearer is Wilbur Lee Burns.
