Joann Browning Ross, 88, of the Fair Play Community, in Panola County, TX, passed away on Thursday morning, Dec. 3, 2020, in Carthage, TX. Joann was born on April 22, 1932, in the Brooks Community of Panola County, TX to the late Hubert Douglas Browning, Sr. and Lillie Mae Tompkins Browning. She graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1949, and attended S.F.A. State University, where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics. Joann married Leo Preston Ross on July 23, 1965, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 17, 2000. Mrs. Ross worked for many years at Eastex Telephone Coop and was the co-owner of L&J Septic Service. She lived her lifetime in Panola County where she was a devoted member of the Fair Play Baptist Church. Mrs. Ross was also predeceased by her brother, Hubert Douglas Browning, Jr.
Survivors include her son, Douglas Evans Duncan and wife Diane of Carrolton; daughter, Valerie Barron and husband Randy of Carthage; and grandchildren, Blake Evans Duncan, Chase Alexander Duncan, Ross Dwayne Barron and his wife Savannah, and Devin Paul Barron. Numerous other relatives and a host of friends also survive Mrs. Ross.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 7, 2020, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Viktor Roudkovsky and Bro. Hal Rymal officiating. Interment will follow in Waldrop Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. The service will be livestreamed on the Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Facebook page for those that are unable to attend.
Pallbearers are Blake Duncan, Chase Duncan, Ross Barron, Devin Barron, Brownie Browning, and Chris Wren. Honorary pallbearers are Pat Browning and Paul Jones.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff and nurses of Winkler House, Briarcliff, and Hospice Plus as well as Mrs. Ross's caregivers for the loving care provided to their loved one.
