Obituary

Joan passed away on May 4, 2014, surrounded by her family. Joan was born in Henderson, Texas to Jim G. and Laverne S. Sorrell on September 30, 1936. She had one younger sister, Sandra, who preceded her in death. She graduated from Haynesville High School in 1955.

Joan met Henry in June, 1955 and after a whirlwind courtship, they were married on February 4, 1956. She and Henry had three children, Debra Joan, Henry C III, and Steven Blake.

Joan returned to school after the children had all left home and received her nursing degree in 1985. This was her true calling, helping people. She worked for several nursing homes, lastly as a wound care specialist. She had to quit when she was diagnosed with leukemia. She got the cancer behind her and then spent the rest of her life taking care of Henry, as he fought several cancers.

Joan was diagnosed with lung cancer in August 2013. She had treatments to no avail. Henry moved her to Lafayette so she would be closer to her children and family. She was under Hospice of Acadiana care in Lafayette when she passed away.

Joan is survived by her husband Henry, and children Debra, Henry III, and Blake, five grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren, numerous relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held June 29, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Carthage. Visitation will be at 2 P.M., with services to start at 3 P.M.
