Obituary

A funeral service for Mr. Jimmy D. Vaughan, age 63, of Carthage, TX, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Carthage with Dr. Allen Tilley and Bro. Mike Wilson officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Langley Cemetery in Beckville, TX. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Vaughan passed away on Tuesday morning, March 12, 2013, in Longview, TX.

Jimmy Dale Vaughan was born on July 17, 1949, in Cleburne, TX to William Richard and Dorothy Cleo Guthrie Vaughan. He was reared in Cleburne and attended Cleburne Schools. Jimmy volunteered for the draft in 1968, and served in the U.S. Army until he was honorably discharged. He married Ovaline Ella Petty on Oct. 18, 1968, in Glenrose, TX. Jimmy was a natural athlete and was good at every sport he ever tried. In his earlier years, he enjoyed bowling and came very close to becoming a semi-pro bowler. He also enjoyed playing football and softball. More recently, he spent his time on the golf course. Jimmy worked for Luminant Mining Co. as a fuel mechanic and tire specialist for over 33 years before his retirement. Mr. Vaughan was a mason and was a member of the Tatum Masonic Lodge #1386 A.F. & A.M. and also a member of the York Rite. He moved to Carthage in February of 1977, from Cleburne and was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Carthage where he was a member of the Victory Sunday School Class. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles and William Vaughan; and one nephew, Rodney Vaughan.

Mr. Vaughan is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Ovaline Vaughan of Carthage; two brothers, Floyd Vaughan and wife Loretta of Arlington and Jerry Vaughan and wife Linda of Forreston; mother-in-law, Twilla Petty of Carthage; brothers-in-law, Bruce Petty and wife Dannet of Shreveport and Robert Petty of Carthage; sisters-in-law, Debroah Smith and husband Jack Jr. of Kennedale, Cynthia Smith and husband Jim of Desert Hot Springs, CA, and Twilla Lynn Brandt and husband John of San Antonio; and special friends, Wayne and Judy Sheffield, Bob and Barbara Wright, Denny Mack and Deborah Jernigan, and Ed and Barbara Jordan all of Carthage. Numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends also survived Mr. Vaughan.

Serving as pallbearers are Mike Vaughan, Tim Vaughan, Cody Vaughan, Jessie Vaughan, Jason Smith, Steven Smith, David Smith, and Matthew Brandt.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are Jacob Smith, Scott Vaughan, Tyler Lang, Drew Lang, Jacob Emerson, Joe Emerson, Michael Vaughan, II, and Nathan Vaughan.
