Obituary

Jimmy Lee Banks was born on October 1, 1938, in Wichita, Falls, Texas to Elon Foy and Lennie Lois Johnson Banks. Mr. Banks went home to be with Jesus on Saturday night, July 13, 2024, at his home in Carthage, Texas at the age of 85, surrounded by his loving family. He grew up in Grayback, Texas and he attended school in Oklaunion. He later moved to Snyder, where he attended and graduated from Snyder High School with the class of 1957. Just days after graduation, he married his sweetheart, Betty Sue Ware on June 1, 1957, in Snyder and they celebrated 64 1/2 years together before she predeceased him on February 16, 2022.

Jimmy served in the United States Army Reserves from 1957-1964. He worked in the Texas oilfields for 50 years in Snyder and later in Carthage as Field Supervisor of R. E. Smith Interests. He was also an avid fisherman, hunter, arrowhead hunter/collector and had a great passion for a beautiful yard of plants and trees. Jimmy loved the Lord with all his heart. He taught Royal Rangers and Sunday School at the First Assembly of God in Snyder. He was a member of Cross Roads Worship Center in Carthage where he served as an Elder. He passed this Godly heritage down to his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elon and Lois Banks; wife, Betty Sue Ware Banks; brother, David Foy Banks; and sisters, Patricia Ann Stroud and Debbie Raye Blevins.

He is survived by his three loving daughters, Tammy Hudson and husband Gaylon of Carthage, Tonja Menges and husband Danny of Longview, and Tracy Banks of Carthage; special adopted daughter, Cherilyn Caraway; granddaughters, April Rhodes and husband Shawn of Longview, Xandy Ballard and husband Robert of Snyder, Nikki Castillo and husband Salvador of Carthage; grandson, Danny Lee Menges and wife Jennifer of Midland; 15 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; and Papa was excited about his newest great-great granddaughter whose expected arrival is in October. He is also survived by his sister, Sharon LaRoux and husband Ray of Tatum and brothers-in-law, David Stroud of Richmond and Billy Blevins of Longview. Numerous loving nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Jimmy and lots of cousins and friends also survive.

The family would like to give a special thanks to his special Caregiver, Tina Hudnall and to Heart's Way Hospice of Northeast Texas nurses, Amy, Angela, and Shelbi; social worker, Tiffani; and aides, Cookie and Tish for all of the loving care provided for our Dad and Papa.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tracy Banks, Danny Menges, and Shawn Rhodes officiating. The family will receive friends for a visitation on Tuesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. A private graveside service will take place at a later date at Walton Cemetery.
