Funeral services for Mr. Jimmie Ray "J.R." Scott, age 72 of Carthage, Texas, will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, 2008 at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Wade Harmon officiating. Interment will follow in Walton Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Mr. Scott passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 in Navarre, Florida.

Jimmie Ray "J.R." Scott was born on November 9, 1935 in Caddo County, Oklahoma to Stanley Lenard and Vurel Hiser Scott. Mr. Scott graduated from Lookeba High School in Caddo County in 1954. Mr. Scott served his country in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged. He married Dona Posey on May 17, 1958 in the Del Ray Community of Panola County, Texas. He was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. Mr. Scott loved farming. He had lived in Panola County since 1958, moving from Barksdale A.F.B. Mr. Scott was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; a nephew, Scott Baker; a sister-in-law, Sandra Posey; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Robert and Angelina Posey.

Mr. Scott is survived by his wife Dona Posey Scott of Carthage; two daughters, Karen Scott and companion Mike Bagley of Carthage and Jennifer Raye Neris and husband Carlos of Navarre, FL; four grandchildren, Bonnie Soape and husband Garrett of Carthage, Brant Prewitt of Carthage, and Antonio and Elysia Neris of Navarre, FL; three great grandchildren, Brynne, Jaycee Raye, and Brooks Soape; one sister, Maryann Holt and husband Jim of Oklahoma City; one brother, Dale Scott and wife Margie of Hinton, OK; one sister-in-law, Janice Page and husband Duane; two brothers-in-law, Alfred Posey of Carthage and Bobby Posey and wife Mary Lou of Carthage. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mr. Scott.

Serving as pallbearers are Brant Prewitt, Antonio Neris, Jon Scott, Garrett Soape, Mike Bagley, and Carlos Neris. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Dale Scott, Jim Holt, Alfred Posey, Bobby Posey, and Duane Page.
