Jewell Ellis, 77, of Carthage, Texas, passed away on Sunday afternoon, November 19, 2023, in Carthage. He was born on March 2, 1946, in Robertson County, Tennessee to the late William Robert and Alice Gertrude Gower Ellis. Jewell graduated with the Coopertown, Tennessee High School class of 1964. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1965, and was later honorably discharged.  Jewell married Frances Lorraine Hudson on August 5, 1967, in Bryan Texas.  He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Crosspoint Church, formerly First Freewill Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Jewell moved to Carthage in 1981, from College Station, to establish the Panola County Appraisal District office. He later worked as a contract pumper, owning Ellis Contract Pumping. He was also preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey William Ellis; brother, William Donald Ellis; sisters, Esterlene Barnett, Evangeline Clinard, and Marjorie June Crutcher.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Ellis; and siblings, Robert Bell Ellis, Mary Dimple Baltrop, Mac Welbur Ellis, Joe Bailey Ellis and wife Jeri, and Bonnie Baltrop.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at Restland Memorial Park with Dr. Arnold Shrewsbury and Bro. Jonathan Blankenship officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Rob Ellis, Jeff Ellis, Jamie Ellis, John Ellis, Chad Nations, and Kevin Pace.

Honorary pallbearers are Donny Holland, Richard Turner, Tom Brinkley, and Donnie White.
