Jewel Pryor Kyle, 105, of Carthage, TX, passed away on Saturday night, Oct. 6, 2018, in Carthage. She was born on Sept. 9, 1913, in Mt. Vernon, Franklin County, TX to the late Joseph Walter and Nona Cox Pryor. She attended Jasper County Schools and graduated from Kirbyville High School with the class of 1932. Mrs. Kyle moved to Carthage in 1934, from Kirbyville. She was united in marriage to James Robert "J.R." Kyle on Dec. 31, 1934 by Dr. Newsom Tiller.

Mrs. Kyle was a Christian since the age of 17 and was the oldest living member of the First Christian Church of Carthage, having joined in 1939. She taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and was president of the Christian Women's Fellowship. She worked as a nurse's aide at Panola General Hospital from 1971-1980. She was treasurer of the Carthage High School PTA from 1949-1951 and served as a Red Cross volunteer during World War II.

Mrs. Kyle was preceded in death by her beloved husband on May 6, 1971; granddaughter, Arlisa Beth Kyle; 10 brothers; a sister; and her daughter-in-law, Martha Kyle.

Mrs. Kyle is survived by her son, Charles Frenchie Kyle; grandson Dwight Kyle and wife Cindy; granddaughter, Alana O'Brien and husband Chris; great-granddaughter, Mackenzie O'Brien; and a sister-in-law, Elester Pryor.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Cocklin officiating. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home prior to the funeral service.

Pallbearers are Pat Pryor, William Goolsby, David Wooley, Joe Wooley, Jim Wooley, and Guy Bunyard. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Kyle and Lynn Vincent.
