Jerry Holman Holland of Carthage, TX, entered into the Kingdom of Heaven on Monday, May 4, 2015, at the age of 87. He was born on October 11, 1927, in Oklahoma City, OK, to the late O.H. and Clara Ann Trout Holland. He graduated from Headrick High School, Headrick, OK, and attended the University of Oklahoma. Mr. Holland served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War while rising to the rank of Captain. He married Mary Elizabeth Ross on Dec. 23, 1950, at the First United Methodist Church in Carthage. Upon discharge from the Army, Mr. Holland resumed his education, earning a bachelor's degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1955, as well as serving in the Oklahoma National Guard. In 1965, he earned a doctorate of jurisprudence from the Oklahoma City University School of Law. One of Mr. Holland's many professional achievements was to serve as an Oklahoma State Assistant Attorney General. Jerry, at the time of his retirement in 1993, was a partner in private practice with the Tulsa, OK law firm of Sanders and Carpenter. Upon retirement, he and his wife moved to Carthage. He was a member of the Rehobeth United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and particularly golf, having taken up the game at age 70.
Mr. Holland is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Ross Holland of Carthage; three children, James S. Holland (Cheryl) and family of Norman, OK, Catheryn H. Barolak (Greg) and family of The Woodlands, TX and Stephen R. Holland (Linda) of Tulsa, OK; one brother, William G. "Bill" Holland (Louise) of Snyder, OK; and two nephews, Stan Holland (Lisa) and family of Snyder, OK and Forest T. Schweikhardt (Lori) and family of Sugar Land, TX.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff and nurses of Hawkins Creek Assisted Living and Memory Care in Longview and Heart's Way Hospice for the loving care shown to Mr. Holland during his illness.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at Rehobeth United Methodist Church with Pastor Robert Goodson officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Rehobeth Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
