Obituary

The second of 4 children born to CB and Nelvin Holder Marshall, Jerrilyne was born on March 3, 1949, in Henderson, TX. She was raised in the Snap Community of Panola County, Southwest of Carthage. She passed away in Longview, TX on Thursday night, March 7, 2024, and was escorted to heaven by God's angels to meet her Savior, Jesus Christ.

Jerrilyne is survived by her husband, Steve Roberson of Longview, sons, Mark Roberson and wife Stephanie of Carthage and Ben Roberson and wife Kristi of Longview; daughter, Stephanie Lyne Cabra of Carthage; her 5 grandchildren, Emily Goode and husband Dalton of Carthage, Hannah Wilkerson and husband Tray of Joaquin, Caleb Roberson and wife Emily of Longview, Wesley Cabra of Carthage and Morgan Cabra of Nacogdoches; and her 3 great-grandsons, Connor Roberson and Marshall Roberson of Longview and Shep Wilkerson of Joaquin. She is also survived by sisters, Wynell Steptoe and husband Bill and Diane Phillips and husband Terry and brother, Barry Marshall and wife Leann, all of Carthage. Numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, and a host of friends, who were almost like family to her also survive.

Jerrilyne was a true Christian lady who served the Lord her entire life. She was a very positive and loving person who was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. Married to her childhood sweetheart at the ripe old age of 17, she and Steve celebrated almost 58 years of marriage. Jerrilyne was always active in the Lord's work. She started Christian Women's Clubs in San Antonio, Kingwood, and Carthage, and also served as a guest speaker for many out -of- town clubs. She taught Sunday School classes at several churches in Kingwood, Carthage and Longview. Jerrilyne was always helping someone in some way. In the last several years she has volunteered at Heartisans in Longview, an organization that helps abused or abandoned women get back on their feet. Jerrilyne loved her family as well as Steve's family. And of course, as "Nana", she loved and tried to spoil her 5 grandchildren. They knew they could get just about anything they wanted from Nana. Jerrilyne's work career started in Austin while Steve was in engineering school at UT. She was a teller at Lamar Savings, then took a job as a keypunch clerk at UT Dept of Utilities. She later started a Tupperware business, a Color Analysis business and then helped create Preferred Sales Agency. Jerrilyne loved to play tennis, and made many close friends, which she lovingly called "my tennis friends". Her instructions for her funeral were to have a special place for her tennis friends to sit and be recognized. In 2011, Jerrilyne did something very few of us have ever done: She played on a National Championship team sponsored by Hollytree Country Club in Tyler. That year her USTA 6.0 Super Senior Team won the Texas state championship and then the National Championship in 115 degree weather in Surprise Arizona. The team went undefeated against teams from Chicago, New York, California and Florida. Jerrilyne's doubles partner was Karen Cook and they were undefeated. Jerrilyne continued to play tennis until her body forced her to quit. But she never quit on her "tennis friends", most of whom are here today. Jerrilyne lived her life well. She had priorities: #1 was Jesus Christ. She tried her best to imitate Him in her life. She loved people and they loved her back. #2 was her family. She loved all the Marshall clan as well as all the Robersons. Nothing was too good for her family. #3 She loved Preferred Sales Agency. It was more than just a company to her; it was family. She was very instrumental in getting the business off the ground, and served as the first customer service rep, the first bookkeeper, the first controller, and the first vice-president. She helped create the culture that the company has found so successful. #4 She loved tennis! So, you could sum up her life as God, Family, Work, Play, in that order! Heaven is a sweeter place today with her presence. She is whole again, as vivacious and lovely as she has ever been, with no ailments or disease, and with her Lord. And the reunion with those she loved who have gone on before her must be fantastic! And the good thing is that it will last forever! Her passing is our loss, but she is now totally well, walking, smiling, out of pain, and forever young again. It was her parting wish that at her funeral, any that did not know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord would hear the plain gospel message. She wanted a positive service with singing and joy. So, if you come to her funeral, put a smile on your face, a prayer in your heart and let's thank God for a life well lived. Thank you, God for giving us Jerrilyne!

As a final note, the family wants to thank the doctors and nurses who so tenderly and passionately cared for Jerrilyne while at Longview Regional, to Heartsway Hospice, to Hattie Harris and Donna LaGrone for their friendship and dedicated care in our home these last 3 ½ months, and to all our family for their support. To all our friends, we say" thank you" for the cards, texts, emails, phone calls, food, flowers, and for just showing Jerrilyne what she meant to you!

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in Carthage with Dr. Allen Tilley and Chaplain Jim Johnson officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery in the Snap Community. The family will receive friends for a visitation from 5-7 p.m. on Monday evening at First Baptist Church.
