Graveside services for Mrs. Jane Baker, age 80 of Carthage, Texas, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, 2008 at the Carthage City Cemetery with Reverend Paul Thomasson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Mrs. Baker passed away on Saturday morning, April 5, 2008 in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Jane Hill Baker was born on July 11, 1927 in Panola County, Texas to Den C. and Ella Jane Standford Hill. She married K. Baker on November 2, 1945 in Carthage. Mrs. Baker worked as a legal secretary for her husband for many years. Mrs. Baker had lived her lifetime in Panola County where she was a member of the First United Methodist Church. As an outreach ministry of the church, she enjoyed crocheting receiving blankets for all of the newborns at East Texas Medical Center in Carthage. She was preceded in death by her husband, Judge K. Baker who passed away on September 21, 1999; two brothers, W.D. Hill and Onard Hill; and two sisters, Zuma Gravis and Maurine Jordan.

Mrs. Baker is survived by one son, Kabot Baker and wife Suzy of Carthage; one daughter, Gloria Underwood and husband Robert of Carthage; four grandchildren, Rachel Donnelly and husband Mark of Houston, R. Collin Underwood and wife Parish of Carthage, Hollie Kay Baker of Nacogdoches and Jonathon Baker of Carthage; three great-grandchildren, Faith Elizabeth and Adeline Jane Underwood and Mark Landon Donnelly; and one sister-in-law, Madeline Hart of Carthage.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Tippit Soape and the entire staff at Winkler House in Carthage for all of the care and kindness shown to Mrs. Baker during her stay there.
