James Roy Woods, 82, of Carthage, passed away on Saturday morning, January 27, 2018, in Carthage after a long battle with Alzheimer's. He was born on September 10, 1935, in Carthage to the late J.P. and Nora Bell Fite Woods. He graduated in 1954, from Beckville High School, where he played basketball and six-man football. He played basketball at the college level at both Panola College and East Texas State College in Commerce. He earned an Associate's Degree from Panola College in 1956, and a Bachelor of Science degree from East Texas State in Agriculture in 1958, after which he enlisted in the Air Force and served his country for two years. He married Bobbie Sue Cammack on June 3, 1960, at Pisgah United Methodist Church in Riderville and was a devoted husband and terrific father. Mr. Woods retired from General Motors after a 25-year career, and enjoyed tracing his family's genealogy and travelling internationally. He was a member of Rehobeth United Methodist Church. Mr. Woods was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bobbie, in 2015.
He is survived by his daughter, Gae-Lynn Woods and husband Martyn Popey of Gary; sons, Jerry Woods and Terry Woods and wife Tracy all of Beckville; and five grandchildren, J.P., Rylee, Lydia, MacGreagor, and Ean.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 28, 2018, at Langley Cemetery in Beckville under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.
