A graveside service for Mr. James David Wells, 53, of Gary, TX, will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at Berry Cemetery near Lufkin with Dr. Fred Childs officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. James David Wells, devoted husband and father, entered into rest with our Lord on Wednesday evening Nov. 20, 2013, in Longview, TX.

James David "Poppy/Pops" Wells was born on Apr. 30, 1960, in Lufkin, TX to the late James Curtis and Merlene Bailey Wells. He attended Lufkin schools. Mr. Wells enjoyed making gun stocks. He was a devoted grandfather to his 15 grandchildren and enjoyed playing football with them especially on Thanksgiving. Mr. Wells married Helen Ruth Yarbrough on Nov. 23, 1987, in Many, LA. David was a loving husband and father. He drove 18 wheelers for 12 years in the oilfield. Next to his family, truck driving was his second love. He was always willing to give his shirt off his back and go the extra mile for anybody. He was a true friend and a very happy person and always made everyone smile. He will be greatly missed. He moved to Gary in 2007, from Carthage and was a member of the Carthage United Pentecostal Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wells was preceded in death by one grandson, Brandon Lee Holt.

Mr. Wells leaves behind his loving wife of 26 years, Helen R. Wells of Gary; three sons, Ricky L. Holt and wife Missy of Wells, Corey E. Holt and wife Betty of Hudson, and Scott Franklin; two daughters, Shawna Anderson and husband Jeremy of Carthage and Kalin Brister of Gary; one brother, Gary Wells and wife Margaret of Lufkin; five sisters, Doris Moran of Lufkin, Katherine Ford of Lufkin, Benita Graham and husband Donnie of Lufkin, Sharon and husband Willie of Huntington, and Janine Drake and husband Galen of Lufkin; 15 grandchildren, Ashley Dennis, David Derr, Adam Holt, Shae Derr, Charlie Derr, Chelsy Holt, Elesha Warner, De'Auna Salser, Heaven Waters, Kaitlyn Beasley, Story Holt, Bladen Holt, Timothy Anderson, Chris Anderson, and Marrisa Anderson; and 13 great-grandchildren, Saya Garrison, Amber Whittington, Kira Derr, Daphne Whittington, Breana Dennis, Alyssa Dennis, Shane Holt, Logan Dennis, Mason Dennis, Dylan Dennis, Foster Garwood, Rosey Bollinger, and Karlie Williams. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mr. Wells.

Serving as pallbearers are Mr. Wells' grandsons, David Derr, Timothy Anderson, Christopher Anderson, Adam Holt, and Thomas Williams and his nephews, Ron Maness, Don Graham, David Ford, Wayne Wells, and Aaron Wells.
