James Tiffen "Tip" Stillwell, 84 of the Woods Community in Panola County, Texas, passed away on Friday morning, January 22, 2021, in Longview, Texas. He was born on July 31, 1936, in the Woods Community to the late Fred Sue and Jimmie Jewel Curry Stillwell. He graduated from Carthage High School. Mr. Stillwell served his country in the United States Air Force during Vietnam, retiring after 20 years. During his military career, he was part of the flight crew that brought back the released prisoners of war from the U.S.S. Pueblo. He also received an air metal for his flight time. He married Mary Ann Kemp on July 17, 1958, in Waco, Texas and they celebrated 61 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on March 20, 2020. Mr. Stillwell moved back to Panola County in 1976, from Dover, Delaware. He worked at TXU where he retired after 16 years. Mr. Stillwell enjoyed hunting and fishing and anything to do with the outdoors. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Milton and Ed Stillwell and twin sisters, Sue Desmond and Ruth Peterson.

He is survived by his sons, Joe Stillwell and wife Patty of White Oak, Max Stillwell and wife Donna of the Old Center Community, and Richard Stillwell and wife Kim of Petal, Mississippi; sisters-in-law, Mattie Stillwell of the Woods Community and Alice Stillwell of Montana; grandchildren, John Cody Stillwell and wife Marcy, Audra Myers and husband Lyle, Shannon Blankenship and husband Barrett, Shelby Tomek and husband Brandon, Cassidy Stillwell, Chance Stillwell and wife Emily, Jake Stillwell and wife Nicole, Nicole Lambert and husband John, and Holly Latham; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at Woods Cemetery with Rev. Richard Stillwell and Rev. Rodney Puryear officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Honorary pallbearers are Bob Stillwell, John Cody Stillwell, Lyle Myers, Barrett Blankenship, Brandon Tomek, Chance Stillwell, and Jake Stillwell.
