Obituary

James Norman "Jim" Qualls, Sr., 82, of Carthage, Texas formerly of Beckville, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2020, in Carthage. He was born on September 3, 1937, in Waxahachie, Ellis County, Texas to the late James Floyd and Jeania Webb Qualls. Mr. Qualls graduated from Crozier Technical High School in Dallas, Texas with the class of 1956. He served in the Texas National Guard. Mr. Qualls married Wanda Lee Bellmire on December 14, 1956 in Dallas, TX. He worked for many years as a welder and he enjoyed working with horses. Mr. Qualls served for many years on the Beckville I.S.D. Board of Trustees. He loved his wife dearly and cherished his family and friends. Mr. Qualls moved his family to Beckville in 1970, from Dallas. He was of the Baptist faith and served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Beckville. Mr. Qualls was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Daniel N. "Danny" Qualls; and a son, David "Shorty" Qualls.

Mr. Qualls is survived by his wife, Wanda Qualls of Carthage; children, James N. "Jimmy" Qualls, Jr. and wife Melinda of Beckville, Michael D. "Mike" Qualls and wife Robin of Natalia, and Penny Qualls Attaway of Shreveport; daughter-in-law, Shannon Qualls of Terrell; brother, Billy Qualls and wife Margaret of Tyler; sister, Mary Ann Luman and husband Gene of Forney; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends also survive Mr. Qualls.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the doctors and nurses with UT Health Carthage for their loving care of Mr. Qualls.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
