Robert Barton, 85, of Tyler, TX, formerly of Carthage, TX, passed away Tuesday evening, Oct. 4, 2022, in Tyler. James Robert Neal Barton, Sr. was born on Jan. 27, 1937, in Beckville, TX to the late Jesse Lee and Minnie Bee Pierce Barton. He graduated from Beckville High School with the class of 1957. Robert married Gloria Dee Allums on Sept. 13, 1958, in Henderson, TX and was a faithful and loving husband for those 64 years. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Central Baptist Church. Robert enjoyed camping, deer hunting, fishing, and working on cars. He was a sheet metal journeyman in good standing with Sheet Metal Local 54 in Houston, TX from 1960, until his retirement in 2002. During those years, he worked in general construction, worked at NASA in the early days of the space program, and ended his career working in the sheet metal maintenance department at Houston I.S.D. In 2008, a few years after retirement, Robert and Gloria moved back to his beloved East Texas and settled in Carthage. In October of 2021, they moved to Meadow Lakes Senior Living Community in Tyler where Robert made many friends. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his son, James Robert Neal "Jim" Barton, Jr.; siblings, James Herman Barton, Fred Neal Barton, Jesse Mae Barton Nunn, Bobby "Bill" Barton, Jr., Linnie Faye Barton Briggs, and Melba Louise Barton Weaver.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Barton; daughter, Belinda C. Barton Lahar and husband William; daughter-in-law, Sheila Marie Barton; sister, Barbara Jean Barton Ellison and husband Roy Lee; 5 grandchildren, James "Jimmy" Robert Neal Barton, III and wife Carly Diane, Jesse Owen Barton and wife Courtney Lynne, Miranda Corinne Barton Barcena and husband Juan Carlos, Rachel Ann Barton McCrary and husband Wallace "Wayne", and Damon James Lahar; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at the Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Jackson and Dennis Smith officiating.  Interment will be at Rehobeth Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00-5:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Jimmy Barton, Jesse Barton, Damon Lahar, Will Lahar, Gary Monic, and Dennis Smith.
