IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Lynn
Marshall, Jr.
January 15, 1997 – June 15, 2025
James Lynn Marshall Jr., affectionately known as "Jlo," passed away on June 15, 2025, in Fort Worth, Texas, at the age of 28. Born on January 15, 1997, in Nacogdoches, Texas, he was the beloved son of James Lynn Marshall Sr. and Dionne Webb. The youngest of his siblings, James naturally became the adored "baby" of the family—spoiled in love, wrapped in warmth, and always the heart of every room.
Raised in Carthage, Texas, his nickname "Jlo" was lovingly given by his dad to distinguish between father and son. It stuck-and it fit. From a young age, James had a bright personality and an even brighter spirit. His late Grandma Earnestine famously cooked him anything he wanted, usually rice, chicken, or his all-time favorite—bacon. James loved deeply and especially treasured his bond with his mother, Dionne. As a toddler, he would cry loudly whenever she left the house—a true momma's boy in every endearing sense.
He was affectionately known as the "word man," always keeping everyone informed with the latest updates, delivered with charm and flair. James began his athletic journey playing soccer with the Hot Shots, where his natural speed and talent led him to score most of the team's goals—until he was moved to goalie just to even the playing field. He also played youth baseball, but it was football that stole his heart.
The summer before first grade, James endured a serious accident that shattered his leg and required emergency airlift, surgery, and extensive recovery. Doctors were unsure if he would walk again—but James defied the odds. With faith, determination, and family by his side, he returned stronger than ever.
He attended Carthage High School from 2011 to 2015 and was a standout on the football team. He played middle linebacker for the Bulldogs and contributed to the 2012 State Semifinalist team. In 2013, he helped lead Carthage to a State Championship and earned Second Team All-State honors. In 2014, the team made another deep playoff run, with James continuing to lead with toughness and heart. He was also voted Mr. CHS by popular vote during his senior year—a testament to the love and respect he earned from peers. During this time, he also held his first job at Carthage Furniture, building the strong work ethic that would carry him through life.
James accepted a football scholarship to Texas A&M-Commerce and later relocated to Southern California to continue playing at Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC). In June 2019, he proudly graduated with an Associate of Arts in Kinesiology and Wellness. That summer, he returned to Texas and moved to the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Home for the summer and looking to earn extra income, his sister Kiara Baker connected him to her workplace, Lone Star Toyota, where she worked in sales. James started by washing cars in the dealership's wash bay, but quickly discovered a gift for selling them. With mentorship, drive, and natural charisma, he rose to become a top producer month after month. He was always innovating—finding new ways to refine his sales process and connect with clients. What began as a summer job became his calling, and the auto industry provided him a fulfilling career and lifestyle he was proud of.
In 2021, James became a father to Daxton "Dax" James Marshall—his greatest joy. Fatherhood came naturally to him. He was proud, protective, and deeply devoted to his son.
James is survived by his mother, Dionne Webb; his father, James Marshall Sr.; his son, Daxton James Marshall; and his siblings, Kashima Marshall, Dwight Smith, Jasmine Smith, Jameika Marshall, and Kiara Moore Baker. He also leaves behind a host of extended family, including a grandparent, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Earnestine Marshall; grandfathers, Dave Horn and James Griffith; and his stepfather, Maurice Webb.
Whether on the field, in the showroom, or at home, James Lynn Marshall Jr. lived with heart, humor, and purpose. He was a loyal son, loving brother, hardworking professional, and proud father. His energy and love touched everyone around him—and his legacy will live on through all those he inspired and loved.
