IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Marvin
"Hoppy" Cassady
February 6, 1939 – March 13, 2024
James "Hoppy" Cassady, 85, of Beckville, Texas passed away on Wednesday evening, March 13, 2024 in Longview. James Marvin Cassady was born on February 6, 1939 in Alexandria, Louisiana to the late Joseph Elmer and Fannie Clyde Law Cassady. He graduated from Boyce High School in Boyce, Louisiana. James married the love of his life, Helen Autina Guin, on December 19, 1960 in Sharp, Louisiana and they celebrated 57 years together until she preceded him in death on September 28, 2018. He served his country through the United States Army and was stationed in Alaska and was honorably discharged. James worked for Holt/Cat as a heavy equipment mechanic and retired after 41 years. He was a member of the Sanctuary of Pentecost in Carthage where he was very involved with the King's Cupboard Ministry. James loved hunting, fishing, story telling, loved his church and his DARR work family.
James is survived by a host of family, nieces, nephews and many friends. Although he didn't have children, he showed what a good man was, how a husband should love and act, and what a father figure should be. He loved his wife Helen more than life itself. They were the very definition of soul mates.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 17, 2024 at the Sanctuary of Pentecost in Carthage with Bro. Dennis Landtroop officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for a visitation from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday evening at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will be in Urania Cemetery in Urania, Louisiana on Monday, March 18, 2024 at 11 a.m.
Pallbearers are his nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, James requested that you make a contribution to The Sanctuary of Pentecost, P.O. Box 352, Carthage, Texas 75633.
