James Doyle Freeman, 88, of Tatum, Texas, passed away on Thursday morning, January 13, 2022, in Carthage, Texas. He was born on April 3, 1933, in Henderson, Texas to the late Jaydee and Inez Grigsby Freeman. Mr. Freeman graduated from Tatum High School with the class of 1951, where he played quarterback on the football team. He married Mavis Helen Hightower on November 21, 1988, in Palestine, Texas. Mr. Freeman worked for T&P Railroad in Marshall, Texas for many years until his retirement. He later owned and operated Someplace Else Night Club in Palestine for many years. James was preceded in death by his parents; son, Steven Doyle Freeman; brothers, Dick, Pete, and George Freeman; and step-sons, Andy and Dennis Ross.
He is survived by his wife, Mavis Freeman; son, Ricky Don Freeman and wife Virginia; daughter, Sondra; brother, Robert Freeman; step-son, Kenneth Ross and wife Debra; and a host of grandchildren that loved him very much.
The family will have a memorial service from 2-4 p.m. on Monday, January 17, 2022, at the pavilion at Stewart Cemetery, 13664 F.M 782, Henderson, TX 75652.
