Obituary

James Russell Deeds, 66, of Lake Cherokee, passed away on Tuesday morning, Feb. 2, 2016, in Tyler. He was born on Nov. 18, 1949 in Bossier City, LA, to the late James LaVern Deeds (birthplace: Bridgeport, Neb.) and Maudine Jacks(birthplace: Pineland, TX). He graduated from Aldine High School with the class of 1967. Jim served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1969-1976, at which time he was honorably discharged. While in the Navy, Jim attended Texas A&I in Kingsville, where he earned a bachelor's degree in History. He loved history, politics, and economics. Jim married Susan Logan on February 12, 1983 in Houston, TX. They later moved to Lorena, TX in 1987, and finally happily landed on Lake Cherokee in 1996. After his discharge from the Navy in 1976, he worked as an insurance adjuster, later in 1991, he specialized in catastrophe adjusting. Mr. Deeds was preceded in death by his parents James LaVern Deeds and Maudine Jacks Deeds, and his niece, Lynette Harrison.

Survivors include his wife, Susan of Lake Cherokee; son, Jimmy Deeds (Marybell) of Tempe, AZ; daughters, Diana Itziar Deeds of Albornikano, Spain, Samantha Itxaso Deeds of Barakaldo, Spain, and Jessica Leigh Deeds of Lake Cherokee; brother, Glen Deeds (Debi) of Carthage; sister Carol Peverill (Fred) of Carthage; grandchildren, J.J. and Alesander Deeds; nephews, Jamie Deeds (Tanya) of Sterlington, LA, Chris Deeds of Alvin, David Harrison (Tammy) of Magnolia, and Brandon Morrison of Winnsboro; nieces, Leslie Deeds of Alvin, Amanda Deeds of Richmond, VA, and Missy Monroe (Brian) of Carthage; sisters-in-law, Cynthia Logan of Baton Rouge and Catherine Logan of Abbeville, LA; and brothers-in-law, Jerry Logan (Julie) of Katy and Donald Logan (Lisa) of Abbeville.

A visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Jackson officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Restland Memorial Park near Carthage.

Pallbearers are Brandon Morrison, David Harrison, Jamie Deeds, John Kallina, Jerry Logan, Donald Logan, and Jared Tessier.
