James Edward Cotton, 87, of Carthage, TX, passed away on Monday afternoon, July 19, 2021, in Tyler, TX. He was born on Sept. 2, 1933, in Fairmount, Sabine County, TX to the late Benjamin Loveless and Opal Webb Cotton. James was an offshore mechanic with Diamond Offshore. He married Sylvia Marjorie Levens on June 10, 1970, in the Canary Islands. James enjoyed gardening and woodworking. Mr. Cotton moved to Carthage in 1975 from the Canary Islands and was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Carthage. He was also preceded in death by two sisters; his grandson, Richard Daniels; and sons-in-law, Lester Fannin and Mike LeRoy
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Cotton; children, Charlotte Fannin of Beckville, TX, Kenneth Cotton and wife Joanna of Riderville and Carolyn LeRoy of Ringgold, LA; siblings, Charles Cotton and wife Bobbye of Conroe, Douglas Cotton and wife Peggy of Beckville, Linda Wilkerson of Lindale, and Judy Walker and husband Mike of Center Point; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2021, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jennene Laurinec officiating.
Honorary Pallbearers are Danny Puckett, Jimmy Puckett, Earl Fannin, Aaron Mills, Justin Cotton, and Aaron Cotton.
