Obituary

Funeral services for Mr. James Clinton "Buster" Lum, age 76, of Gilmer, Texas, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2009, at Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gilmer with the Rev. Todd Kaunitz, Dr. David L. Jenkins and the Rev. Mervin Scott officiating. A graveside service will follow at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery near Carthage. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer. Mr. Lum went home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 8, 2009. Local arrangements are under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.

James Clinton "Buster" Lum was born on December 18, 1932, in Sabine Parish, Louisiana, in the community of Union Springs to Eula Mae Estes and Clinton Elzey Lum. He attended Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana and was a three year letterman on the football team. Buster served in the military, both in the U. S. Marines and the U. S. Army and retired from Otis Engineering after 33 years of service. He was a member and served as a deacon of First Baptist Church of Gilmer. Buster also was a member of the C. F. Spencer Masonic Lodge # 1384 A.F. & A.M. Buster married Jackie Plemons of Carthage, Texas on February 3, 1961. To their union was born a son, daughter and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Elsie Mahaffey; brother, Elmo Lum, and son-in-law David Hall.

Mr. Lum is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jackie of Gilmer; son, Clinton Dwayne Lum and his wife, Jeanne of Pearland, Texas and their children, Clinton and Kathryn of Pearland; daughter, Allison Lum Hall of Huffman, Texas and her children Rebekah and Micaiah Hall of Huffman; brother, Bobby Lum and his wife, Maxine of Ashland, Louisiana; sister-in-law, Margaret Lum of Montgomery, Texas; brother-in-law, Bobby Plemons and his wife Shirley of Carthage, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the building fund of First Baptist Church, 217 W. Cass, Gilmer, Texas 75644 or the Linda Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund, 698 CR 44 Carthage, Texas 75633.
