James "Pete" Brady

James “Pete” Brady, age 98, of Carthage, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, April 19, 2026, in Carthage.

James Bernard “Pete” Brady was born on November 21, 1927, in the Long Branch Community of Panola County, Texas, to James Arthur and Ada Elizabeth Mays Brady, who preceded him in death. He attended school in Long Branch and later graduated from Carthage High School.

A proud veteran, Pete served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952, attaining the rank of Corporal before receiving an honorable discharge. On April 2, 1953, he married Geraldine Cariker. Together they shared 60 years of marriage before her passing on December 6, 2013.

Pete dedicated many years of service through his work with the Texas Highway Department as an Engineering Technician until his retirement. He later worked at Panola County as an equipment operator, retiring a second time after many more years of faithful service.

In his younger years, Pete found joy in hunting and fishing, and in later life he enjoyed relaxing with a good Western. He spent his entire life in Panola County and was a longtime member of Long Branch Missionary Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents and beloved wife, Pete was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.

He is survived by his sons, Gregg Brady and wife Sue, Ray Brady and wife Randi, and Roy Brady; his grandchildren, Jason, Tyler, and Addison Brady; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 24, 2026, at Long Branch Cemetery with Bro. Michael Littleton officiating, under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home.
