James Calvin Bishop, 72, of Carthage, TX, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021, at his home in Carthage. He was born on Jan. 11, 1949, in Morrilton, AR to the late Leland Washington and Billie Jean Brents Bishop. James graduated from Waskom High School with the class of 1967. He married Carolyn Sue Long on Nov. 28, 1966, in Jefferson, TX. James worked as a fuel mechanic for Texas Utilities, retiring in 2014, after 39 years. He enjoyed fishing, working on cars, and cherished his family especially his kids and grandkids. James was a faithful and devoted member of The Pentecostals of Marshall. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Don Bishop and in-laws, Rev. H.P. Long and Bertie Jean Mason Long.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sue Bishop of Carthage; children, Paul Bishop and wife Angie of Carthage and Angela Bishop of Garland; children by heart, Carmen Molina and Sherri Watson; sister, Norma Jean Russell of Bentonville, AK; grandchildren, Brandon Bishop, Morgan Wedgeworth Nichols and husband Jamie, Trevin Bishop and wife Rosa Salazar, Emmie Jo Wedgeworth, Haley Macha, Ashley Macha, Kaitlyn Macha, Dalton Wedgeworth, Cason Bishop, and Kenlie Bishop; and great-grandchildren, Wyatt Grubbs, Kalvin Bishop, Dean Nichols, and Sophia Bishop. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a host of friends also survive.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Chad Roberts, Rev. Lindsay Long, and Rev. Joe Shaw officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park near Carthage. The family will receive friends at 9 a.m. on Saturday prior to the funeral service. The family respectively request everyone wear a mask.
Pallbearers are Trevin Bishop, Steve Long, Stevie Long, Joe Earl Shaw, II, Herman Benefield, and Rodney Shaw.
Honorary pallbearers are Brandon Bishop, Cason Bishop, Larry Roberts, and Buster Bell.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Texas Home Health, Heart's Way Hospice, and The Pentecostals of Marshall.
