Obituary

A funeral service for Mr. Jake Jackson Walker, age 89, of Bethany, TX, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Dale Reed officiating. Interment will follow in Panola-Mt. Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Walker passed away on Thursday morning, Jan. 17, 2013, in Carthage.

Jake Jackson Walker was born on Oct. 10, 1923, in Fairview, TX to William Pinkney and Mary Belle Spears Walker. He married Nada Frances Hood on Jan. 30, 1947, in Victoria, TX and she preceded him in death on Apr. 23, 1993. Mr. Walker moved to Bethany in 1955, from Gladewater. He enjoyed gardening, raising cows, and raising chickens. Mr. Walker worked for Sonat as a pumper and mechanic until his retirement. He was a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church. Mr. Walker was also preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Martha Elizabeth Pace and Mary Frances Hoegenauer; three brothers, James Edward, William Charles, and Vernon Roy Walker; and one son, Oscar Weyman Walker.

Mr. Walker is survived by two sons, Jake Walker and wife Gayle of Hallsville and Danny Walker and wife Kim of Elysian Fields; two daughters, Martha Ann Chellette and husband Ray of Dodson, LA and Mary Brummett of Carthage; two brothers, William Pinkney Walker, Jr. and Franklin Roosevelt Walker both of Gladewater; two sisters, Leatrice Bernice Callaway of Houston and Jewel Faye Stevenson of Dallas; six grandchildren, Guy Daniel Walker and wife Michelle, Kristopher Todd Walker and wife Jennifer, Michael Wayne Walker, Stacy Walker Munoz, Karen Asbeury and husband Asber, Taylor Walker, and Charles Chellette; numerous great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers are Chesley Stevenson, Jami Beason, Perry Walker, Charlie Walker, Kris Walker and Guy Walker. Serving as honorary pallbearer is Michael Walker.
