Obituary

Jaquelene (Jackie) Sue Singleton, age 66, of Carthage, TX passed away February 3, 2023 in Longview, TX, surrounded by the love and support of family and friends. Jackie was born June 17, 1956 in Paris, TX to Emmit and Ruby James, the 5th of a family of 7 brothers and sisters. Jackie married Tony Lester Singleton on June 8, 1973, embarking on a journey of life-long marriage and enjoying 50 years of partnership that blossomed with 3 children, 2 grandchildren, and a beloved great grandchild. Jackie had many passions in life, none more enduring than watching her children, grandchildren, and great grandchild experience key milestones. Jackie had a servant's heart with her family and her church. She attended every important event, always present in proud, smile-soaked support of the achievements of her loved ones. Jackie loved flowers, inheriting a gift for gardening from her mother, making the world a better place for everyone with an eye to see the variegated colors and contours of dozens of flowers, plants, trees, and a yearly garden, all that cascaded in beauty in and around her home. Most recently, Jackie had moved from Tatum to Carthage and was gleefully grateful for her new home, adorning it with cheerful décor and the dutifully precise care that only she had the robust vision to see. Almost as much as Jackie enjoyed tending the tendrils of her flowers, she loved to shower others with gifts, particularly Christmas gifts. Christmas shopping was a year-round marathon for Jackie, but Black Friday was always the sprint for which she trained with the most ardor. Her zeal for obtaining just the right gift for all her loved ones was as unmatched as her house was adorned inside and out with decorations that announced that the season of giving had arrived in a symphony of celebration. Above all else, throughout her life Jackie pursued the Christ-honoring action of service and friendship. She served her church families with practicality and purpose, engaging in benevolence, keeping treasury books, ensuring buildings and grounds were tidy, and preparing hundreds upon hundreds of Bible lessons to help spread the love of Jesus throughout the world. Alongside her acts of service, Jackie built and maintained life-long friendships – relationships that were by her side through joyous celebrations and crushing hardships. Throughout the last two years, those friendships were more meaningful than ever, filling her mantle with cards of support, finding their way to her side at a moment's notice, and filling her heart with the knowledge that she would not endure her final years, months, and days, without constant and committed love and support. She was grateful for every act of kindness towards her and returned that kindness at every opportunity. Jackie ever pursued the faithful journey, filled by the love of Christ and fueled by the grace of God. She ran the race before her with endurance, and her works surely do follow her.

Jackie is survived by her husband, Tony Singleton; son, Richard Singleton and his wife, Stacey Singleton; son, Philip Singleton; daughter, Natashia Singleton; brothers and sisters, Jimmy James, Glenn James, Deborah Carlock, and Bobby Parmley; grandchildren, Lydia and husband Mike Hernandez; Braden Singleton, and great grandchild, Rory Hernandez.
