A graveside service for Mr. Jackie Lee Sims, Sr., age 81, of DeBerry, TX, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2011, at Greenwood Cemetery in Greenwood, LA with Rev. Eric Wilburn officiating. Mr. Sims passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2011, in Shreveport, LA.
Jackie Lee Sims, Sr. was born on July 27, 1929, in Magnolia, AR, to William Rufus and Mary Frances Brewer Sims. He served his country in the United States Army and Navy during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. Mr. Sims worked in the oilfield business for Hammock Oil Tool in Houston and overseas for many years until his retirement. He moved to DeBerry in 1989, from Houston and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Sims was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, William Rufus Sims; one niece, Sharon Sims; and one nephew, Billy Sims.
Mr. Sims is survived by his son, Jackie Lee Sims, Jr. of DeBerry; ex-wife, Florence L. "Mot" Sims of DeBerry; two grandchildren, Chad Lee Sims and wife Jana of Marshall and Aynsley Sims Nelson and husband Donnie of Forney; three great-grandchildren, Grant Sims, Cara Elizabeth Sims, and Alyssa Nelson.
