A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Jack Lemore Daniels, will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, January 13, 2025, at Sugar Land Methodist Church, 431 Eldridge Road, Sugar Land, Texas. Dr. Daniels died on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at The Reserve at First Colony Assisted Living, in Sugar Land, Texas. Born on July 13, 1930, in Beckville, Texas, the son of Joseph Lemore and Velma Brown Daniels, he graduated from Beckville High School. He received his undergraduate degree at the University of Texas, his Master's Degree from Stephen F. Austin State University, and his PhD from East Texas State University. He taught mathematics in Houston and Tyler Public Schools and served as a school counselor in Tyler. Upon receiving his PhD, he taught four years at Northwestern State University (Louisiana), twenty-six years at the University of Southern Mississippi, and one summer term at the University of British Columbia (Canada).
Jack was active in his professional life in the American Counseling Association serving on the National Board of Directors, in the Mississippi Counseling Association serving in many positions including State President, in the American Psychological Association. While at the University of Southern Mississippi he was elected President of the Faculty Senate three times. He received awards from the American Counseling Association for his outstanding service and received the Career Contributors Award from the Mississippi Counseling Association.
Jack was ordained as a Deacon and Elder in the Presbyterian Church, served as Moderator of the South Mississippi Presbytery, attended the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.), and served as stated clerk of his local church. He served on the Gulf Pines Girl Scout Council and the Board of Directors of Evergreen Vocational School (Presbyterian). Jack taught Sunday school for more the twenty years and served as pulpit supply to several churches. Upon retiring, Jack and his wife, Carol, moved to Sugar Land, Texas to be near their family. Since that time, he has been an active member of Sugar Land Methodist Church in various roles. He served several years as a Stephen Minister, hospital visitor, and has taught Sunday school and Bible Studies. He has been very active in the prayer ministry of his church and coordinated the Intercessory Prayer Ministry.
He is survived by his daughter, Sue Daniels Stanley and husband, Tim Stanley, of Richmond, Texas; son, James Lemore Daniels, of New Orleans, Louisiana; granddaughters: Christina L. Hill and husband, Caleb Hill, of Nacogdoches, Texas; Katherine L. Garrison and husband, Matthew Garrison, of Livingston, Texas; and two great grandchildren, Cecelia Hill and Rowen Garrison.
Following services in the Church Sanctuary a reception will be held in the Gathering. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Youngblood Cemetery in Beckville, Texas, or a charity of the donor's choice.
Burial will be in Youngblood Cemetery in Beckville, Texas, at 2:00 P.M., on Sunday, January 12, 2025, with Rev. Wade Skinner officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.
The family would like to thank Brandy Duckworth, Adetutu Odulaja, and all of dad's wonderful caregivers for faithfully watching over him and caring for him during his illness.
