Iris McCauley Jones, 93, of Carthage formerly of Center, passed away on Friday morning, Dec. 2, 2016, in Carthage. She was born on May 31, 1923, in San Augustine to the late James Noah and Ida Doris Borders McCauley. She graduated from Shelbyville High School with the class of 1940. Mrs. Jones married Melvin Jones on Oct. 25, 1941, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 7, 1996. She was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi, the Order of the Eastern Star, Garden and Book Clubs, and enjoyed cooking, sewing, needlework, and decorating. Mrs. Jones was a member of the First Baptist Church in Center and she was a member of the Rachel Sunday School Class. She was also preceded in death by daughter, Linda Jones Meeks and sisters, Edith Matthews and Mary Lenoir Woods.
Survivors include her daughter, Wanda Hanszen and husband Jerry of Carthage; son, Dr. Tom Jones and wife Vicki of Carthage; brother, Dale McCauley of Groves; grandchildren, Kent Hanszen and wife Theresa, Brooke Hanszen Paddie and husband Chris, Lee Jones and wife Leslie, and Jessica Page and husband Cory; and great-grandchildren, Iris, Sam, Elizabeth, Emily, Christopher, Noah, Lee Andrew, III, Linda, Dawson, and Lois. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mrs. Jones.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 5, 2016, at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center with Cory Page officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for a visitation from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.
