Obituary
A funeral service for Mrs. Iree Smith Walton, age 92, of DeBerry, TX, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Central Baptist Church in Carthage with Rev. Joseph Lewis officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery near in DeBerry. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Walton passed away on Monday afternoon, May 13, 2013 at her home in DeBerry.
Iree Smith Walton, "Ma-Dear" was born on March 1, 1921, in Panola County, TX to Manuel and Lizzie Dickerson Smith. She loved to quilt, fish, sing, garden, can, and cook. She was a well rounded person and could do anything she put her mind to. Mrs. Walton loved to go to church and she smiled all the time. She lived her lifetime in Panola County and was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church. Mrs. Walton was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alex Walton, Sr.; two brothers; five sisters; three sons, Manuel T. Walton, Ray Walton, and Freddie Walton; and one daughter, Darcie McCann.
Mrs. Walton is survived by one son, Alex Walton, Jr. and wife Ruby of Dallas; five daughters, Ruth Beck and husband Leon of DeBerry, Gurthy Moore and husband Bill of Dallas, Claudia Guffin of Dallas, Betty Jones of Longview, Mildred Brooks and husband Jim of DeBerry; son-in-law, Curtis McCann; daughters-in-law, Dorothy Walton, Dot Walton, and Mary Walton all of Dallas; 35 grandchildren; 76 great-grandchildren; and 59 great-great grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt "thank you" to the staff and nurses of Heart's Way Hospice, Drs. Akpassa and Hill, and Bethany Home Health for all of their loving care of Mrs. Walton throughout her illness.
Serving as pallbearers are Charlie Jones, Ozell Holland, Colby Beck, D.K. Calloway, Danny Joe Walton, and Lonnie Williams.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are Mrs. Walton's grandsons.
