Obituary

Ira Steven Bounds, 70, of Carthage, Texas, passed away on Thursday morning, June 27, 2024, in Longview, Texas. He was born on December 28, 1953, in Longview to the late Miriam McDowell Bounds and Maretta Ruth Ross Whisman. Steve graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1972. He worked as a master industrial electrician. Steve had a love for listening to and playing music. He was a talented guitar player and a lifelong songwriter. For many years, he owned and operated Steve's Guitar, Sound, and Repair in Marshall, Texas which served a lot of the area's musical enthusiasts and introduced a love of guitars to many others. Steve was highly skilled in repairing guitars and amps, known to many people in the area as the "amp doc." He was the bass player for Stumbler, a band he and his friends started in the early 1980's. Steve loved old movies, and later in life, he also discovered a love for acting while onset of the movie Bernie. He also had a green thumb and if he planted it, it was probably going to take (of 198 tomato plants, we did not lose one like we had expected...there were so many tomatoes!). Dogs and cats loved him, and he loved them right back. Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Maretta Whisman; father, M.M. Bounds; and sister, Scarlett Jolley.

He is survived by his children, Derek S. Bounds of New Braunfels, Dustin and Paige Bounds of LaGrange, Lisa Bounds and Uriel Castro of Pflugerville, Leslie Bounds and Ryan Easter of The Woodlands, and Dylan Bounds of McKinney; grandchildren, Derek M. Bounds, Devyn Bounds, Olivia Bounds, Ella Ehrbar, Ayla Bounds, Eisley Easter, Avery Easter, and Everett Bounds; sister and brother-in-law, Belva and Patrick Kohler; brother, Clifford Bounds; brother-in-law, Rob Jolley; step-mother, Jeanette Bounds; significant other, Carol Sullivan; best friend, Carol Bounds; numerous other relatives and a countless number of friends; and of course, his "shadow," Big Un the Boxer.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 5, 2024, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Kevin Otto officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home prior to the memorial service. A private interment will take place at Waldrop Cemetery.
