Ida Mae Thomas Hicks was born on Feb. 10, 1918, the second of four children born to the proud parentage of Lucinda Steel Thomas and Sylvester Thomas. She married the love of her life, Alonzie Hicks in 1932, and to this union four children were born. Ida Mae confessed the Lord as her Savior at an early age and remained faithful until the end. She was a member of the Tabernacle C.M.E. Church in the Tabernacle Community of Panola County until it closed its doors, upon which time she transferred her membership to the Bethel C.M.E. Church in Beckville. Ida Mae performed domestic work for a number of years and also worked as a cook in a café where residents of Beckville soon discovered what everyone of her relatives and friends had known for years, "Ida Mae made the best chocolate pie on the planet." She was also a master quilt maker of which she sold many and loved to crotchet. She was a devout member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Ida Mae was preceded in death by her husband; one brother, Larnch Thomas; two sisters, Ethel Bowie and Blanche Black; and one daughter, Yvonne Flakes.

Mrs. Hicks is survived by three children, Elmeree Green (Billy) of Wichita, KS, Louise Hicks of Dallas, and Travis Hicks (Jackie) of Cerritos, CA; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends, who loved her dearly and she loved them, also survive Mrs. Hicks.
