A funeral service for Mr. Howard Lee Smith, age 50, of DeBerry, TX, will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Apr. 27, 2013, at Central Baptist Church in Carthage with Bishop Hubert Owens, Rev. Joseph Lewis, and Rev. Marvin Graves officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Bethlehem-Deadwood Cemetery near DeBerry. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Smith passed away on Saturday night, Apr. 20, 2013, due to injuries sustained in an accident.
Howard Lee Smith was born on Aug. 1, 1962, in Carthage, TX to Charles Junior and Charlie Mae Calloway Smith. He graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1981. He married Mae Francis Robinson on Aug. 18, 2011, in Panola County, TX. Howard was an outdoors person and loved to fish. He was a kind hearted and hard working person. Mr. Smith lived his lifetime in Panola County and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; one sister, Mary Kay Granberry; and one brother, Charles Ray Smith.
Mr. Smith is survived by his father, Charles Junior Smith of Carthage; his mother, Charlie Mae Calloway Smith of Miami, FL; his wife, Mae Smith of DeBerry; one son, Jamie Granberry of Dallas; one step-son, Delton Williams, Jr. of Carthage; one step-daughter, Delilah Daniell Williams of Carthage; three brothers, Don Smith and wife B.J. of Tyler, Gene Smith and wife Shironda of Dallas, and Danny Smith and wife Artie of Kilgore; eight sisters, Rosie Taylor and husband Michael of Plano, Mary Roberts and husband Valton of Carthage, Mary Hayes of Greenville, Vonda Smith and husband Michael of Carthage, Stephanie Smith and husband Oshay of Longview, Stella Black and husband Sam of DeBerry, Amy Smith and husband Carlton of Carthage, and Ashley Smith of Carthage; two step-grandchildren, Deltric Williams and Kaylen Igbokwe.
Serving as pallbearers are Jamon Edwards, Raydell Pipkin, John Smith, Carlton Williams, Larry Pipkin, and Michael Smith.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are John Williams, James M. Robinson, Don Smith, Gene Smith, Valton Roberts, Mike Nickerson, and Evien Nickerson.
