Obituary

Horace Lee Hodge, 67, of Carthage, passed away on Monday, Sept. 5, 2016, in Carthage. He was born on Aug. 24, 1949, in Panola County to the late L.B. Hodge and Sylvia Bell Downing Hodge. Mr. Hodge married Sandra Kay Glass on Feb. 14, 1990, in Carthage. He worked in construction and in the oil field. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding his tractor, and spending time with his family. His favorite quote was "Talk low, talk slow, and don't say too much." He was a member of Still Waters Cowboy Church. Mr. Hodge was preceded in death by his brothers, Waymon, William, Clyde, Odell, and Martell Hodge; sister, Twilla Andrews; and son-in-law, David Helms.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra of Carthage; children, Scottie Hodge and wife Melissa of Bessemer, AL, Marcus Higgins, Jr. and wife Terri of Bacliff, TX, Mathew Higgins and wife Cindy of Taylor, Ark., Dustin Hodge and wife Kerrie of Midwest City, OK, Tamatha Helms of Jasper AL, Amy Higgins of Carthage, and Larissa Cole and husband Derrick of Farmersville, LA; siblings, Claudine Hodge of Gary, TX, Rusty Hodge and wife Sharon of Gary, Pearl Hodge of Gary, David Hodge and wife Beverly of Carthage, and Pansy Hodge and husband Brian Neimtschk of Gary; 16 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; best friend, Gary Crowley of Carthage; and his dog, Boogie. Numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends also survive.

A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016 at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with John Henry Zabcik officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.

Honorary pallbearers are Scottie Hodge, Marcus Higgins, Jr., Mathew Higgins, Dustin Hodge, David Hodge, Rusty Hodge, Gary Crowley and Tim Kelly.
