Obituary

Funeral services for Mr. Homer Milton Marshall, age 92, of Gary, TX, will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2011, at Eastside Baptist Church in Gary with Bro. Dale Walker and Dr. P.A. DuBose officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. A Masonic graveside service will follow in Gary Cemetery under the auspices of the Gary Masonic Lodge #1101 A.F. & A.M. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Marshall passed away on Tuesday morning, May 31, 2011, in Carthage.

Homer Milton Marshall was born on Aug. 30, 1918, in Gary, TX to Homer Franklin and Pearl Lillon Hall Marshall. He married Cleta Fern Austin on Aug. 6, 1941, in Cape Girardeau, MO. Mr. Marshall served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII, from 1942-1946, attaining the rank of sergeant before being honorably discharged. During his service, he trained recruits at Fort Knox, KY before deploying overseas and fighting in the European Theatre. He was a charter member of the Eastside Baptist Church in Gary. Mr. Marshall was a member of the Gary Masonic Lodge #1101, for over 40 years. He was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post #5620 in Carthage. Before retiring, he was the production foreman for Tenneco Oil Co. in Lafayette, LA. Mr. Marshall was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; three brothers; and one niece.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Cleta Fern Marshall of Gary; two sons, Jeffrey Marshall and wife Mary of Henderson and John Marshall and wife Barbara of Gary; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one niece, Linda Marshall; and one nephew, Franklin Vaughn.

Serving as pallbearers are Walter Craft, O.J. Britton, Robert Lewis, Eric Wilson, Lane Wilson, and Sidney Burns.
