Obituary

A funeral service for Herman Jeter, 89, of Long Branch, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2015, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow with military honors in Bethlehem Cemetery in Deadwood. Mr. Jeter will lie in state from 12 noon – 5 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. He passed away on Saturday morning, Feb. 28, 2015, in Carthage.

Herman Jeter was born on March 3, 1925, in Panola County, TX to the parentage of the late Charles and Edna Walton Jeter. He attended DeBerry and Deadwood schools. At a young age, he confirmed his faith in Christ at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Deadwood. Mr. Jeter served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and was honorably discharged. He married Lorene Allison and to this union 13 children were born. Mr. Jeter worked at the Henderson Brick Plant and was a general builder. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Kenneth Jeter; and sister, Opal Jenkins.

Survivors included sons, Jerry Jeter and wife Mattie of Carthage, Lee Jeter and Nefitti Gillard of Lake Murvaul, and Herman Ray Jeter and wife Eun Young of Killeen; daughters, DeLois Wall and husband Carlton of Carthage, Ella Louise Adams of Beckville, Alice Grant of Carthage, Katherine Duson of Carthage, Shirley Murphy and husband Vinson of Carthage, Patricia Alonzo of Alexandria, Brenda Williams and husband James of Carthage, Deborah Harris of Houston, and Sharonnica Smith of Carthage; sister, Charlene Brown of California; 40 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends.

Pallbearers are Bryan O'Neal Jeter, MonQualin Jeter, Tony Alonzo, Jr., Calvin Jones, Jr., RaSheed Lucas, and James Williams.

Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Jeter, Lee Edward Jeter, Herman Ray Jeter, Kawan Jeter, Jerry Jeter, Jr., and Brandon Lister.
